10 Tips For A Healthy Lifestyle

Making healthy habits a part of everyday life means a reduced chance of getting sick, be it diabetes, heart disease or even cancer. Living a healthy lifestyle requires constant and steadfast effort. It’s easy and natural to get unduly confused when it comes to health and nutrition.

Here are 10 tips for a healthy lifestyle—

  1. A healthy diet:

Eat foods such as fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts, whole grains. Fruit and vegetable intake can be increased by including vegetables in the diet. Eat a variety of fruits and vegetables; and eating them seasonally is a must. By eating healthy, you can reduce your risk of malnutrition and non-communicable diseases, such as diabetes, heart disease, stroke and cancer.

  1. Avoid excess sugar and salt:

Consuming too much sugar increases the risk of tooth decay and abnormal weight gain.  Both adults and children should reduce sugar intake.  Most people get their sodium through salt.  Limit the amount of salt, soy sauce, fish sauce and other high-sodium condiments when preparing food.  Remove salt, salty spices from your dinner table.  Avoid salty foods and eat low sodium products.

  1. Be active everyday:

Try to exercise at least 30 minutes every day. Being physically active is the main goal in whatever way it is – walking, jogging, swimming etc. Whether doing a Pilates workout, the goal is to stay physically active. Exercise not only helps you maintain a weight control, but also boosts immunity.

  1. Stay hydrated:

Remember to drink at least four to five liters of water a day. Water is essential for regular bowel function, muscle performance, immune system enhancement and skin health. Not drinking enough water can lead to dehydration, fatigue, headaches, and dry skin.

  1. Enough sleep:

Sleep is essential to maintain immunity. At least 5 to 6 hours of sleep keeps your body healthy and refreshed. Good sleep is difficult to maintain both physical and mental health.

  1. Avoid smoking:

Smoking is the leading cause of deadly diseases like lung cancer. It also increases your risk of heart disease. Smoking is harmful to your own health as well as to the people around you.

  1. Relief from excess stress:

Excess stress is responsible for many ailments, from migraines to heart problems. Find ways to relieve stress by doing things you like watching funny movies, painting, gardening, listening to music, etc. Talk to your friends and family members to get rid of negative thoughts.

  1. Prevent alcohol consumption:

There is no safe level to drink alcohol so it is best to stop. Alcohol consumption can lead to mental and behavioral disorders such as alcohol dependence, and liver cirrhosis, cancer and heart disease.

  1. Regular check-up:

Start regular check-ups by identifying various diseases. Visit your nearest health centre for various tests related to health services, screening and treatment.

  1. Safe sex:

Taking care of sexual health is important for overall health.  Practice safe sex by using condoms to prevent sexually transmitted diseases like HIV and other sexually transmitted infections like gonorrhea, syphilis etc.
